Steps.Church is software churches use to run applications to serve in a ministry. This page says what it keeps about you, why, and for how long.

Who is responsible

The church you apply to decides what it asks and who at the church reads your answers. Steps.Church holds that information for the church and uses it for nothing else. Questions about what a church does with your application are best asked of that church.

What is kept

  • Your account: your name, email address, and a password if you set one (stored only as a one-way hash).
  • Your application: the answers you give, recordings and files you upload, messages between you and the church, and notes the church’s staff write about it.
  • References: the name and email address of anybody you ask for a reference, and what they write. References are read by the church and never shown to you.
  • Signing in: a cookie that keeps you signed in. There are no advertising or analytics cookies, and no tracking.

Signing in with Google

If you choose Continue with Google, Google tells us your name, your email address and that the address has been verified. We use them to sign you in, or — if you are new and started from a church’s page — to send that church your request to apply. We do not receive your contacts, files or anything else from your Google account, and we do not post anything to it.

Who else handles it

These services run parts of Steps.Church and handle your information only to do so:

  • Vercel — hosting the site and storing uploaded files
  • Neon — the database
  • Resend — sending email
  • Google — only if you choose to sign in with it

Your information is never sold, and never used for advertising.

How long it is kept

An application, with everything in it, is deleted ninety days after it starts. Your account stays until the church removes it or you ask for it to be removed.

Your choices

You can stop notification emails from the link in any of them. To see, correct or delete what is held about you, ask the church you applied to, or reach Steps.Church through Support once signed in.
